Nov. 9, 2015, Affirmation board member John Gustav-Wrathall, Diane Oviatt of Mama Dragons and Claremont Graduate University professor Patrick Mason join Jennifer Napier-Pearce to talk about the policy change and the swift response from those in and out of the church.

In a recent addition to the Salt Lake Tribune’s popular internet video podcast, Patrick Mason, Howard W. hunter Chair of Mormon Studies at Claremont Graduate University, joined with several others to discuss the recent policy published by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on gay couples and their children. Mason described the new policy and how it labeled Mormons in gay marriages as “apostates” and the children of such couples would “not be able to receive a naming blessing, baptism, ordination to the priesthood, or go on missions until they reach the age of majority, and disavow same-sex marriage as a practice.” Commenting further on the reaction by the church’s membership on the policy, mason noted how even faithful Mormons who supported legislation prohibiting gay marriage “are upset at this policy and have had a really hard weekend.”
